Tampa Rays Looking Great Heading Into Final Month of Regular Season:

The Tamp Rays are looking pretty good right now. They're
tied for first with the New York Yankees in the American League East.
They've recently completed a sweep of the AL West leading Texas Rangers.
Their schedule going forward looks pretty easy. They head out west for
series at Oakland, then three games against the Los Angeles Angels of
Anaheim. It should be a simple test for the Rays because neither team is
within the Rangers for first and the Rays seem to be getting better. Jeremy
Hellickson has been as billed, filling in for Wade Davis and Jeff Niemann.
Their long relief pitcher, Andy Sonnanstine also filled in the starting
rotation.
Evan Longoria is having a tremendous season, hitting .293 with 80 RBI, he's
had 10 hits in his last 11 games after cooling down for a few weeks.
Longoria seems to be heating up, preparing for a push towards the playoffs.
Longoria leads the team in a few offensive categories, including RBIs, and
135 hits. Carl Crawford continues to have a tremendous year. Crawford's
always been a great fielder, now he's hitting even better. It's a great
season because he's expected to get a hefty pay raise this offseason, given
his free agent status after this year. Crawford leads the team with a .303
batting average.
The pitching staff for the Rays has outperformed the hitters. David Price is
the ace of the staff now, leading the team with 15 wins. He out dueled Cliff
Lee the other day during their sweep of the Rangers. Price also leads the
Rays with a 2.85 ERA. They also have a solid bullpen led by closer Rafael
Soriano. They added Chad Qualls near the trade deadline. They're a complete
team that won't go away for the rest of the season. Looking ahead, they have
seven games head-to-head against the Yankees, all in September. These games
will likely decide which team wins the AL East and which team settles for
the AL Wild Card. The Rays are a young team that shouldn't be taken lightly.
It's going to be a great post season and the races for the final spots
should come down to the final week of the season.
