PGA Golf Masters Review:

It's every golfers dream of playing for the green jacket at
Augusta National. The Masters kicks off today and everyone's looking at the
world's number one golfer, Eldrick Tiger Woods. He's not the favorite this
tournament. He's spent the last few months in rehab and hasn't played a lot
of golf since his private matters became public.
The field is favored against Woods. Golf is a rhythmic sport that one needs
to play repitively to get better and continue to play better. Padraig
Harrington, Ernie Els, Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson each have a chance to
wear the green jacket on Sunday. Harrington has a couple of two top 10
finishes so far this season. Fuyrk won a tournament for the first time since
2007 and Mickelson is always a threat to win.
Heavy hitters play well, but it's going to be those that are able to make
the clutch 10-15 foot putts on a regular basis to be near the top of the
leaderboard. You'll notice that defending champion Angel Cabrera isn't
listed as a favorite. He's trying to become the first repeat champion since
Woods. It's not out of the realm of possibilities for him to repeat, but
it's unlikely. It's important to hit the long ball well off the tee because
of the lengthing of the course. The leaders will be able to recover
extremely well. It's what Woods does extremely well. When he misses the
fairways, it's usually not by much and then his iron work to get safely on
the green shows his discipline and unwavering patience gives him an
advantage over his competitors.
The Tiger Factor is something that other competitors have dealt with ever
since Woods burst onto the golf scene. Players usually fold on the weekend
rounds if Tiger is in the last group. Rocco Mediate played toe to toe with
Tiger and came up short. It gave golf one of the greatest showcases ever.
Mickelson's been accused of folding when playing with Woods, even thought it
hasn't happened on the weekend in awhile.
Watching Augusta to see how Woods plays, along with seeing the majesty and
grace should provide a great showcase for golf and get the common player
excited for summer. Woods could make it into the last group, but choose the
field, because they're more prepared that Woods. Golf's a game of repetition
and Woods really doesn't have the practice time as much as the other
players.
