Lefty Looking for Elusive U.S. Open Title:

Phil Mickelson made his professional golf debut at the 1994
U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. Well, the tournament that's tortured Mickelson
during his career returns to where it began. Many are predicting Lefty can
win the tournament because Pebble Beach plays right into his game. He may
not be the number one ranked player in the world, but he sure is playing
like the best.
He'll have to play better on Friday, as he finished day one +4 76 after day
one at Pebble Beach. The problem facing Mickelson and the rest of the field
would be Tiger Woods. Woods dominated the last time the tournament was held
at Pebble Beach, winning by 15 strokes. That's when Woods was completely
dominate. Woods has come off from there, even before last November.
It's hard to figure out which player will win the tournament after one game,
but a strong opening round could set up the rest of the weekend and assure
making the cut. Mickelson struggled on a gorgeous day for golf. It was his
first birdie less round in a major since 2007. He hit the ball well, the
only thing that kept Lefty from dominating was his short game. He missed two
10 footers, two five footers and one three foot put.
Lefty's not buried at this U.S. Open. He'll figure out the putting game and
hopefully his championship hopes won't fade away. He's had some great
tournaments at the U.S. Open. Maybe, this year he'll put it all together for
that elusive U.S. Open championship.
