Knicks Regrouping after Losing Out on James and Bosh:

Now that the most coveted NBA players all signed long term
deals, it's time to see where the rest of the top remaining free agents
decide to play next season. Mike Miller seems to be heading to Miami to play
with the triumvirate and will provide the shooting presence needed. He can
also provide a change of pace with his shooting skills over attacking the
basket with James and Wade. Richard Jefferson opted out of his deal with San
Antonio to get money elsewhere. It's interesting because a lot of insiders
couldn't believe the decision to leave $16 million on the table.
He's not going to get a much bigger raise, or even that much this season.
Jefferson's gone on record with a desire to return to the New York Metro
area. A return to the New Jersey Nets is an unlikely possibility. The New
York Knicks are looking to add players with limited contracts as to add some
key pieces over the next two off seasons. It seems the Heat and Los Angeles
Lakers will fight it out for the services of Derek Fisher. Fisher really
wants the opportunity to win a championship. Kobe Bryant wants Fisher to
finish his career with the Lakers. He has five championships and the
leadership he would bring to the Heat couldn't be matched by other available
free agents. The decision most likely will come down to money. Fisher will
get more money from the Lakers but a better shot at a championship with
Miami.
The free agents mentioned before that the Knicks will be targeting are
Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul. Anthony in 2011 and Paul in 2012, the Knicks
are looking to shed enough contracts in preparation for two max contracts
for Paul and Anthony. Anthony is the likeliest to go to New York. He had his
wedding in the city this past weekend. His wife is from the city. He wants
to play on a bigger stage and there's none bigger than NYC. It would be a
poor career move though. He should stay in the West where he has a bigger
chance to make it to the Finals. Paul is a bit of a longer shot. He could
sign a long term deal after a trade to another team or sign a longer deal
with the New Orleans Hornets. The Knicks lost out on James and Bosh, but
there's a glimmer that Anthony and Stoudimire could form to be a great duo
on Broadway for a long time.
