James Show Part Deux: Much of the Same

Author: Michael Licata
Date: 11/2/2010

It started with a whimper. The Miami Heat opened the season against the Boston Celtics, losing to the old Big Three 88-80 on opening night. It was the most watched cable NBA broadcast ever. LeBron James poured in 31 points for the Heat. It was the rest of the team that decided to taking the night off. Dwayne Wade only scored 13 points, disappearing at times. James had to single handily bring the Heat into the contest, the last time bringing the score closer than the game.

Wade is going to have to learn to play without the ball more now that James is on the team. Both players are used to playing with the ball, bringing up the court and acting as point guard. James dominated with the ball in his hands. It was like the Cleveland Cavaliers of the past few seasons. Watch James play. It’s not going to get the Heat a championship. They need to learn how to play together. They didn’t get a lot of time together in the preseason.

Paul Pierce scored 19 points for the Celtics. Rajon Rondo continued to prove that he’s one of the best NBA point guards, dishing out 17 assists. The game wasn’t close, the Celtics outplayed the Heat for about 40 minutes and James kept the score close. It also showcased how far the Heat have to go to be a contending team in the Eastern Conference.

The Miami Heat will learn to play together. Practice and games will help James, Wade and Chris Bosh learn to play together. James felt that he needed support to win a championship. He didn’t get it on opening night. Wade and Bosh are the two best players James has played with every night. The Heat will get it together. Can they beat the top teams like the Celtics and Orlando Magic in a seven game series? Not yet.
