The Group Of Death games got underway during the World Cup
and it's shaping up to be the best games of the first round of the
tournament. Christiano Ronaldo and Portugal played the Ivory Coast to a 0-0
tie. The biggest scare for the Ivorians when Ronaldo hit the post during the
11th minute of the match. Drama came in full supply during the match when
Didier Drogba entered the game in the 66th minute in the second half. Drogba
played tentatively, expected because of his broken arm. He was cleared to
play with a light cast by officials before the game.
In the second contest in the group of death, Brazil faces off against North
Korea. Many don't think North Korea will stand a chance against the other
three teams but they o have some nationals playing in important foreign
leagues. It's tough when your first match is against a team that's expected
to win the entire tournament. Brazil is one team that every one can't wait
to watch. They've changed their entire style of play, much to the chagrin of
loyal followers. Dunga has his team playing a defensive minded style, a
sharp contrast to the beautiful style, sweeping passes and highlight reel
goals.
Brazil, Ivory Coast or Portugal, one of the teams will not make it past the
first round. Expect Portugal versus Brazil to be the most anticipated game
of the first round. Ronaldo against a revamped Brazilian defense should be
interesting. He always plays the best against the top talent in the world.
Kaka leads Brazil. He will be in charge of the playmaking in the mid-field
for the entire tournament. He is considered one of the top five players in
the world, but struggled through injuries with his club team, Real Madrid
this past season. Expect the two teams that come out of Group G during this
year's World Cup to be the two more prepared teams, ready for the knock out
stages of this year's World Cup
