Cushing Decision Sets Precedent for Cheating Athletes:

The Associated Press will re-vote for the Defensive Rookie
of the Year because of Brian Cushing's positive test for a banned substance.
Cushing tested positive for the substance in September 2009 and was tested a
few times randomly during last season. Cushing was the overwhelming favorite
for the award last season. The recast votes are due by early afternoon on
Wednesday. Cushing also finished as an All-Pro. Cushing will be in the
running but it's not expected
This is an interesting step being taken by the AP. Maybe the leagues should
explore taking away awards from those that are caught taking banned
substances. The NFL did a good job in that direction, forbidding a trip to
the Pro Bowl for those that are caught during the season. Cushing made an
impact in every game he played last year. It might have been helped by PEDs.
Leagues should take away trophies and accolades after the players get
caught.
The NFL is always on the forefront of punishing players that have done
wrong. It should be interesting to see what NFL commissioner Roger Goodell
says about the AP's decision to re-vote on Cushing's defensive ROY award.
Maybe this will set a precedent for other leagues, revoking awards for
cheaters. Interesting times in the aftermath of PEDs coming front and center
in the sports world.
